environmentally acceptable lubricants
Recent legislation and greater awareness have driven a new focus on maritime environmental responsibility.
Clarity® EAL's deliver the benefits of environmental responsibility and dependable high performance.
environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs)
Chevron Marine’s environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) are used in the marine industry as an alternative to traditional petroleum-based lubricants. These EALs are designed to meet the regulatory requirements for environmentally acceptable lubricants set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) are lubricants that are specifically designed and formulated to meet strict environmental regulations and standards. In marine vessels, EALs are used as an alternative to traditional lubricants that can cause harm to the marine environment.
EALs work by reducing friction and wear between moving parts in marine machinery. They are typically made from renewable, biodegradable, and non-toxic materials such as vegetable oils, synthetic esters, and other biodegradable base stocks. These lubricants are also formulated with additives to provide the necessary performance characteristics, such as anti-wear, extreme pressure, and corrosion protection.
One important characteristic of EALs is their biodegradability. In the event of a leak or spill, EALs are designed to break down naturally and not harm marine life or the environment. This is in contrast to traditional lubricants, which can persist in the environment for a long time and cause harm to marine life.
