Low-speed, two stroke crosshead engines
Taro® Ultra 140(A)
Low-speed, two stroke crosshead engines
Taro® Ultra 140(A)
Description

The Taro Ultra range of cylinder lubricants is specifically engineered to meet the performance demands and operational flexibility required for IMO 2020 compliance. These lubricants have been extensively field-tested across a wide range of fuels anticipated in the post-IMO 2020 landscape and are approved by leading engine manufacturers.

Taro Ultra 140 and Taro Ultra 140A* (hereafter referred to as Taro Ultra 140(A)) are cylinder lubricants with a Base Number (BN) of 140 mg KOH/g. This ultra-high BN provides enhanced acid neutralization capacity, enabling effective protection against corrosive wear, even at reduced cylinder oil feed rates in the latest generation of highly efficient two-stroke engines operating on high-sulfur residual fuels.

Applied at reduced cylinder oil feed rates, Taro Ultra 140(A) offers a viable alternative to Taro Ultra 100, supporting optimized lubrication while contributing to lower overall operating costs.

Taro Ultra 140(A) is formulated with highly refined base oils and carefully selected additives to help provide effective ring and liner wear protection while supporting piston cleanliness in low-speed crosshead diesel engines.

Recommended Uses

Taro Ultra 140(A) is recommended for lubricating the cylinders of the latest generation large, low-speed marine diesel engines equipped with exhaust abatement technologies operating with heavy fuel oil under all load conditions and highly corrosive operating conditions.

The base number of Taro Ultra 140(A) makes this product ideal for use in engine types and under operating conditions that are sensitive to cold corrosion in the cylinder.

Taro Ultra 140(A) should be used in accordance with OEM guidelines and recommendations.

Taro® Ultra 140(A) Is Approved For:

Everllence (formerly MAN ES) (Category II cylinder oils)

Win GD (formerly Wärtsilä)

Performance Benefits

1. Engine Protection

Acid neutralization helps protect against excessive cylinder liner and piston ring wear resulting from the use of high sulphur heavy fuel oils, thus extending cylinder liner and piston ring life.

2. Engine Cleanliness

Acid neutralization helps protect against excessive cylinder liner and piston ring wear resulting from the use of high sulphur heavy fuel oils, thus extending cylinder liner and piston ring life.

3. Storage Stability

Stable at ambient temperatures and during long-term storage.

4. Compatibility

Miscible and compatible with diesel cylinder lubricants generally known to the international marine trade.

5. Operating cost

Ultra-high base number formulation provides the same level of alkalinity and corrosion protection at lower feedrates, reducing operating cost.
